Derivative of the etimológico origin of institutio (in Latin education), an institution is an establishment or institution that a social contribution of educative and cultural type realizes, like the institutes of education or investigation or the museums. From the same origin they come instruction, instructor and governess.

The term institution does not have why to be a physical place. An institution is, for example, leading an automobile by the right in certain countries. Also the concept can be extended to designate to a person of special consideration, veneration and respect: for example Miguel Delibes is an institution in the Spanish culture, or Chavela Vargas is an institution in the Latin song. There are many degrees of institutions, formal and informal. The study of these institutions is of high quality to understand many political, economic behaviors, etc.
