The History of Sacavém is the own one of a locality that, by its strategic situation - located in the crossroads of the ways that, coming from the north and the east, went to Lisbon he was present in almost all the dates keys of Portuguese History. Sacavém is one freguesia pertaining to the council of Loures, closely together of the council of Lisbon, crossed by the Trancão River and limiting the south with the Sea of the Straw.
It is an ancient population, existing in the days of the Romans a deck that subsisted, at least, until century XVI. Of the time of the occupation blackberry it was, apparently topónimo of Arab origin (شقبان, Šaqabān); immediately after the wall and later conquest of Lisbon by the Christians in 1147 it seems that a combat took place in this locality (Batalla of the Sacavém River), although today is considered legendary.
