Haile Gebrselassie

Haile Gebrselassie (18 of April of 1973, Arsi) is basic a specialistic Ethiopian athlete in careers who takes realizing his activity from the 90 until the beginning of the 21st century.

Beginnings

Son of farmer and with nine brothers soon was nicknamed “neftenga” (commander) by his qualities shown in the careers that disputed. With nine years he began to be running to the school, to about 10 km of his house. In spite of which his father did not begin to believe in him until 1993.

Sport trajectory

In 1992 champion proclaimed itself sub-21 of the world in 5.000 and 10.000 ms. In 1993, he secured in absolute category the title of 10,000 ms and the subchampionship of 5.000. In 1995 he began to fight records in both distances, beginning by the one of 10,000 that fought in Hengelo, Holland, with a mark of 26:43,53; and the one of 5,000 ms 12:49,39 fought in Switzerland, increasing the list of double world-wide plusmarquistas that was empty from Henry Rono (KEN) in 1978. In the Championship of the World of Sweden in 1995 and the JJOO of Atlanta 1996 it returned to prevail in the 10.000.

In March of 1997 one took control of gold in 3.000 ms in the Championship of the World of covered landing field. In Oslo, Norway, recovered the record of 10,000 ms when doing 26:31,32 surpassing in 7 seconds the previous mark. In Athens third gold in 10.000 ms in the Championship of the World of 1997 obtained his. In 1998 it again fought the marks of 5,000 and 10,000 ms until leaving them in 12:39,36 and 26:22,75 respectively. In 1999 (Spain) obtained its room gold in the Championships of the World of Seville and in the JJ.OO of 2000 it secured his fifth first position in the same evidence. In the championship of the world of Paris 2003 it was second behind his compatriot Kenenisa Bekele of only 21 years, in front of another Ethiopian, Silesi Sihine. After this defeat it began to prepare itself for maratón, although it competed in the end of the JJOO in Athens 2004 being in fifth place and with an injury in the sinew of Aquilles.

After operating of the sinew he began to run marathons and means marathons, establishing in 2005 the best world-wide mark of year (2: 06: 20) in maratón of Ámsterdam, the Netherlands. In Phoenix, Member States, maratón with a time of 58 minutes and 55 seconds, also fighting of way fought the world-wide record of means the world-wide record of 20 km in highway with a mark of 55:48, stripping to its rival Paul Tergat of this mark by more than 30 seconds. At the moment also it owns the world-wide record of 10 km in highway with a time of 27:02.

In Granollers (Barcelona) the 5 of February of 2006 ran means maratón in 1h 00m 07s, realizing the best mark of history in Spanish ground.

The 27 of June of 2007 became world-wide plusmarquista of the hour with a whole range in that time of 21km 285 meters, secured in the landing field of Ostrava, Czech Rep.

04m is the present world-wide plusmarquista of the Maratón with a time of 2h 26s realized the 30 of September of 2007 in Berlin, Germany. After fighting that world-wide record it declared that one is enabled to lower it still more, to even run in 2´03, and that someday somebody will lower of 2h.
