European colonies and original towns (centuries XVI-XVIII)
The European Colonization of America begins at the end of the century XV after which Cristóbal Columbus arrived in 1492 with the patronage of Corona of Castile. From there, the Kingdom of Spain, and later the kingdoms of Portugal, England, France, and Holland, conquered and colonized some territories and populations that already inhabited the continent.
The kingdoms of Spain and Portugal were first in realizing the conquest, and they were based mainly in Central America and the Andean area of South America (Aztec empire and Inca, respectively)
The Kingdom of Spain was the power that greater colonial presence imposed in America. It then took possession by the force from the two great existing empires in America, the Incaico Empire in present Peru and the Aztec Empire in present Mexico, settling down in his cities. Thence it controlled a great part of Central America, and the South American Andean area until the central part of present Chile. In North America it got to take control of the peninsula of Florida and the present states of California, New Mexico, and some territories more. In the Caribbean, it dominated Cuba, the Spanish mainly, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, among others.

Neocolonialism is the indirect control that exerts the former colonial powers on their former colonies or, broadly speaking, the hegemonic States on the underdevelopeds. These countries do not enjoy a total independence, but they are put under the dictations cultural, political, linguistic and, especially, economic, of another one.
Neocolonialism is different from colonialism, that it is characterized by a direct control. Thus, the military force for the occupation of the country is used and colonists coming from the metropolis in the subject territory to domination settle down.
Causes
After the political liberation of the colonies the old economic structures stayed generally. The dependence on imports of the metropolis, the merger of the production in certain raw materials to export Europe and North America, the deficiency of the technical médios and the capital, and the conservation in certain cases of the property of the industry into the hands of Colonizing supposes the continuation of the economic control on these countries.
The devaluation of the raw materials that export and the sale of manufactured goods of greater added value generate an injurious trade deficit for these countries. The external debt assumed by many countries is also a relevant factor in the trial.
