Political science (well-known also like politología) is the social science that it has as study field the theory and practice of the policy in his diverse dimensions, including the description and analysis of the political and electoral systems and the electoral behavior. The professional of political science is the politólogo (sometimes called politicólogo).

Political Science, extending the description and the mere opinion, orients to the rigorous, systematic and objective knowledge (valuing) of the facts and phenomena that conform the political reality. The produced knowledge, like in all science, is obtained by means of the observation and the reasoning, having used structured arguments systematically and of which general principles and laws are deduced.

Gerrymandering is the technique of geographic design of the electoral districts used to favor or to harm to a certain candidacy in selections, mainly in majority electoral systems. The technique consists of the design of the districts of such form that the fishing-grounds of vote of a certain candidacy are concentrates in a same district, thus excluding those sections of the population to obtain representation by other districts. As a result of this technique, employee still today in different contexts, an political group can end up obtaining more representatives than another one with a number of votes very superior.

The name of this technique must to Elbridge Gerry, governor of Massachusetts between 1810 and 1812. On the occasion of electoral elections in this State, it designed an electoral district of a little conventional form with the purpose of to benefit to his party, the Party Democrat-Republican. The journalists of the time indicated that the district designed by Gerry had salamander form (to mander, in English). Thus, since then this phenomenon is known by gerrymandering.
