Acid folk

Acid folk or folk psicodélico is an originated musical sort in the decade of the '60 through the mixture between music folk, the Indie folk and psicodélico rock or MGP.

Characteristics

Acid folk prefers the acoustic instruments, although it also appears other instruments. It appears influences of old music and the folk music of individual countries. Known like the counterpart the rock, the Acid Folk has a peculiar atmospheric sound. Their letters are based generally on the natural world, the love and the beauty and try to evoke a state of the mind associated with psicodélicas drugs.

History

Incredible String Band, Donovan, Fairport Convention, Pentangle, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Syd Barrett are eminent examples of artists of acid folk. These bands and soloists are of Great Britain, where psychedelic music has a strong report with folk.

It enters the bands of America can name to Byrds, Love, Bermude Triangle Band and Pearls Before Swine.

New artists are trying to imitate this sound, although not necessarily they must be considered like Acid Folk. Current 93 with their album Earth' Covers Earth, took a new direction from folk, reviving the sort of the Acid Folk of groups like the Incredible String Band. The album is one parodia post-punk of the album of the Incredible String Band The Hangman's Beutiful Daughter.

From the '90 this sort is including the existencialista pair Pinkie Maclure & John Wills, known like Pumajaw in Scotland. Also Elephant Six includes in its rows artists like Neutral Milk Hotel, known by its sound Acid Folk.
